What Does Website Care and Maintenance Include, and Does Your Site Need It?

See what website care and maintenance usually includes, how it differs from SEO and redesigns, and how to tell whether your business site needs it.

Website care keeps a live site updated, secure and working. If your site brings in inquiries, someone needs to own it.

A website is not finished when it launches. Software needs updating, forms need to keep delivering, pages break, and nobody notices until a visitor does. Website care is the routine work that prevents that. Whether you need a formal arrangement depends on how much your business relies on the site and who is currently responsible for it.

What can go wrong when no one is looking after the site?

Most problems are quiet. A contact form stops sending messages. A plugin or theme falls behind on updates. A link on a key page leads nowhere. Pages slow down. An error appears and no one checks. None of this announces itself, and each one costs you a conversation with someone who was ready to get in touch. A small business website checklist lists ongoing maintenance as a basic requirement for exactly this reason.

What does website care and maintenance usually include?

The core work is the same whatever the size of the plan. It covers software, theme and plugin updates where your site uses them, backups and security and general site health, checking that forms work and links are not broken, a review of site performance, minor troubleshooting when something misbehaves, monitoring for indexing and errors, and reporting that suits the level of care.

What do higher levels of care add?

Beyond the core, bigger arrangements add more time for updates and changes, and bring in search and content work: uploading articles, tracking keywords, basic keyword and competitor research, improving existing pages, and local search support. The top level adds writing SEO articles, reviewing your conversion path and forms, and priority handling. So the real choice is how much active improvement you want on top of keeping the site healthy.

How is it different from SEO, a redesign or a new website?

Care looks after what you already have. It is not a rebuild, and it will not fix a site that explains your business poorly. If the question is whether you need a full website, a single campaign page or both, website vs landing page is the better place to start. SEO work is one part of the higher levels of care, but it is not the same thing as keeping the site technically healthy.

Does your site need it?

It is worth having someone responsible if any of these sound familiar:

  • You are not sure the contact form actually reaches you.
  • Updates have been pending for a while and no one owns them.
  • The person who built the site is no longer around.
  • The site is a main source of inquiries or bookings.
  • You plan to publish new pages or articles regularly.

If your site is a small, rarely changed brochure, the case is weaker, though someone should still check the basics from time to time.

What if ProVirtual PH did not build your site?

That is fine. For sites we did not build, recurring care begins with a website health check and maintenance onboarding, so we understand what we are looking after before we start looking after it.

How ProVirtual PH approaches it

Website Care, Maintenance & SEO is available as a separate recurring service, whether or not we built the site. If you are not sure what your site needs, a discovery call is a good first step.
